Could famciclovir (famvir) affect blood sugar?
I’m not diabetic, but earlier this year I decided to track my blood glucose. Usually my fasting BC is in the high 80′s to mid 90′s and it rarely exceeds 120 even after eating because I tend to eat a low glycemic diet.
This morning my fasting blood glucose was 112! And not only was my fasting glucose high, but after I ate my usual breakfast — a cheese and broccoli omlette, very low carb — it shot up to 123, which it never has done before with that kind of food. I am using a very reliable meter, the True Result from Nipro Diagnostics.
Here is one thing that was new: I had a herpes outbreak yesterday afternoon, so I took a total of 1500 mg of famciclovir. This gave me a splitting headache all night (I probably won’t use this med again). I took 650 mg of ibuprofen at 6 AM which eased the headache somewhat, but not completely.
I wonder if either the famvir or the headache and poor sleep (or all that plus the ibuprofen) could have affected my morning and subsequent glucose numbers, which have since returned to normal. But I have searched the internet and I don’t find any indication that either of these meds increase blood sugar.
One final weird thing is that two days ago, my meter came up twice in a row with the “control solution” symbol when I tested my blood sugar. This symbol should not appear unless you are using a special testing solution. However, the BC numbers were as expected and the next day the symbol didn’t appear, so I thought everything was okay. Could this be a delayed screw-up on the meter?
If anyone can make an educated guess about what’s going on, I would appreciate it.

Digestion and weight loss…(experts only please–no “hypothesizing”:))?
Hi everyone,
I’m constantly reading these conflicting(?) articles on weight management and digestion. Some advertisements sing the praises of this or that food/supplement/ingredient, saying it “aids digestion” and thereby helps promote weight loss. Many health articles give us list of foods which are easily digested “making the nutrients more absorbably/accessible.”
But…the low-glycemic diet plan is all about SLOWING digestion, isn’t it? And eating foods that aren’t so quickly and readily absorbable. In fact, it teaches that the harder your body has to work to “get” at a food/nutrient, the better the food is.
Then there are even foods out there that function as natural “carb blockers” or “fat blockers,” preventing/decreasing our bodies’ absorption of certain fats and carbs.
But…then there are enzymes we’re supposed to take to help us absorb nutrients more effectively!
What am I missing??? Help!
Thanks for your feedback! :0)
EDIT: just browsing and need a laugh? Check out answer #6. Guess the poor guy used up all his wit on his username…
EDIT #1, continued:
…and his edit. Note the unintentional irony.
EDIT #2: He’s right about one thing, though: apparently, this site is not the place to find an answer. Again, the question is about digestion and weight loss, not “general health and diet tips.” I appreciate the feedback, but please limit comments to the actual topic.

PCOS no period for three months! Is this normal?
I have slight PCOS, and used to be on a low glycemic diet. B/c of stress my eating has been REAl bad. I haven’t had a period in 3 months but have instead had spotting. I had a negative preg. test so it’s not that. Is skipping a period that many months normal for PCOS?

My blood glucose is normal and I’m underweight. Could I still be insulin resistant?
I have been diagnosed with PCOS/hyperandrogenism. I am 26 years old, 5’6″ and only weigh 100 pounds. I have experienced sudden unexplained weightloss recently and my doctor thinks I probably have an unidentified autoimmune disease. I am already aware of over 50 food sensitivities and allergies that I found through cytotoxic blood testing and I have a VERY strict diet. I stick to a mostly low-glycemic diet already but occasionally stray into some white flours and saturated fats. Should I be concerned about insulin resistance since I have PCOS even though my blood glucose is normal and I’m so thin?
My symptoms are polycystic ovaries, severe acne, hairloss, irregular menses, and infertility so actually I do have most of the common symptoms of PCOS. I’m just lacking the obesity and hirsutism. I have not seen an endo yet due to no insurance but I plan to soon.

why do acne products on tv lie about diet having nothing to do with acne?
I saw this commercial for some product.. don’t remember what it was now, but it claimed to blame your acne on biology, and not food..
That is so ridiculous because my acne started to clear up when i started eating right… cut out gluten, simple carbs, and dairy.
How can companies make such preposterous claims? There’s been studies that show that low glycemic diets help with acne anyways. Do you think one could have a potential law suit on the product for false advertising?
